Student union election 2025

Every spring term, the Örebro student union conducts elections to vote for who will be involved and drive the organization forward for the next financial year. Between February 17 and March 9, every individual regular member of the Örebro student union can nominate himself or another member for full-time paid positions and other positions of trust or to be a student representative. Elections to the student union sections are also carried out in the spring - where the nomination period runs between March 3 - 16.

As a student union, we are tasked with appointing representatives to bodies within Örebro University where decisions are prepared or where decisions are taken on matters relating to the students education or situation.

Örebro Student Union appoints as the only student union at Örebro University all student representatives in the university's bodies. In these matters, the representatives must represent all students at the university, regardless of whether they are members or not. In order to be elected as a student representative, however, one must be a regular member of the Örebro student union.

Election of full-time paid and other positions of trust

Full-time employees are elected by the Örebro student union council in connection with the election each spring semester. The full-time employees consist of the president of the Örebro student union, two vice-presidents and Lösnummer's editor-in-chief - and in other words, they devote themselves to their assignments full-time. There are, in addition to them, part-time paid positions.

Election of councilors

Councilors are elected in connection with the respective union section's election meeting, which takes place during the month of April. The distribution of mandates to the council is regulated in the Örebro student union statute and is based on the previous year's membership and number of students at the represented institution. Each union section can elect as many ordinary members to the council as the union section has the number of mandates in the council. Each union section can elect as many deputies as the union section has the number of mandates in the council, plus two additional deputies in addition to these. Election of the corps section board

The corps section board elects in connection with the respective corps section's election meeting. Each union section board consists of a chairman, vice-chairman, education supervisor, finance manager/treasurer, communications manager and other positions of trust. Election of student representatives

In connection with the respective union section's election meeting, elect student representatives. As a student representative, you represent students on a specific issue or advice. Depending on which institution you go to, there are different options to choose from when you apply for a student representative. Election of Student Representatives

Student representatives are elected by the Örebro student union council, union board and union sections depending on where within the university's organization the student representative is to act. How student representatives are elected and which positions are available for election are regulated in the Örebro student union's election regulations.

At departmental level, the union sections are responsible for appointing student representatives, at overall university level the council and union board are responsible for appointing student representatives. Every spring term before the new academic year, the council holds elections for student representatives. The corps sections are responsible according to their own regulations and governing documents for appointing their student representatives.

The University's Management Organisation

Number of student representatives: 2 (of which 1 PhD student) The University Board is the university's highest decision-making body. According to the Higher Education Act, the board has "overview of all the affairs of the higher education institution and is responsible for the fulfillment of its tasks". Eight members, including the chairman, are appointed by the government and represent public interests. The board also includes the principal, three teachers and three students as regular members. Representatives of the employees (union representatives) have the right to attend and speak at the board's meetings, as do the head of internal auditors and others who belong to the university management.

The university's overall council

Number of student representatives: 1 Student relations is a unit within the Department for Communication and Cooperation. The unit is responsible for student recruitment which contributes to more first-time applicants to the university, an increased application pressure from international students and works for broader recruitment to higher studies. Within the unit, we also work to facilitate the establishment on the labor market for our students after completing their studies and to make us a more attractive student life city.

Number of student representatives: 2 (of which 1 PhD student) The Internationalization Council consists of the vice-chancellor for internationalization and cooperation, the university director, deans, heads of department and student representatives. The purpose of the council is to create comprehensive strategies and approaches regarding the university's internationalisation. Student union representatives should be interested in internationalization issues and want to influence Örebro University's direction internationally.

Number of student representatives: 1 and 1 deputy. Since 2018, students at Örebro University have been writing digital classroom exams in WISEflow. During the pandemic, many home exams have also been completed in the system and everything indicates that activity in WISEflow will continue to increase. Twice per semester, about an hour and a half each time, management group meetings are held for WISEflow. The primary purpose is for the users' opinions and needs to have a recurring forum so that we who work behind the system know what to focus on at all times. The group includes administrators, teachers, educational developers and exam proctors. But the most important group is still missing – students! The Research Ethics Council works with handling reports of misconduct and deviation from good practice in research in accordance with current national and internal regulations, and advises the faculty management regarding research ethics issues.

The Teacher Education Council works with issues related to teacher education at the various institutions. Based on discussions and consultations within the Teacher Education Council, the heads of departments have the opportunity to make joint decisions about the development of teacher education.

Number of student representatives: 1 doctoral student Örebro University is part of the university alliance NEOLAiA, which consists of nine European higher education institutions. In the summer of 2023, NEOLAiA was granted approximately SEK 170 million by the EU to conduct joint work in education, research and collaboration. The NEOLAiA Student Advisory Group (SAG) is one of three "Advisory Boards" whose purpose is to provide advice at a strategic level. Each university has two places in SAG, which means that there will be a multicultural group of students in SAG. The meetings will primarily take place digitally, but there will likely be a physical meeting in Europe every year. SAG shall provide input and advice to NEOLAiA and represent the students at the nine partner universities. As a representative in SAG, it is also desirable that you have ongoing contact with the local project management for NEOLAiA at Örebro University (ORU) to discuss how ORU can better work with NEOLAiA in relation to ORU's students.

Faculty committees

Number of student representatives: 2 (of which 1 PhD student) The university is divided into three faculties and each faculty is governed by a faculty committee. The faculty committee has the highest responsibility within the faculty. The faculty committee decides, for example, which education programs are to be available, when education programs are to be changed and how the money for research is to be distributed. The faculty committees make many decisions, but are also an important forum for discussions and conversations. Most members of the committee have a scientific or artistic background. As a student representative, you have a great opportunity to raise questions, follow developments and gain insight into how your part of the university is governed. The committee is responsible for the quality of education and research within the Department of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, the Department of Law, Psychology and Social Work, the School of Music and the School of Restaurant and Hospitality. The board is both the principal's and the institutions' most important interlocutors and advisors in matters relating to academic quality and business development. The committee is also the rector's staff body in academic quality and strategy matters. In a coherent manner, the committee must manage education at basic level, advanced level and postgraduate level, as well as research to promote the research connection of the education.

Faculty committee

Number of student representatives: 1 Each faculty committee includes a teacher proposal committee whose task is to prepare matters relating to the recruitment, employment and promotion of teaching and research staff. The board also has the right to accept researchers as unpaid associate professors. The teacher proposal committee for ENT is responsible for applications and preparation of cases for the School of Economics and the Department of Natural Sciences and Technology.

Number of student representatives: 1 The teacher proposal committee for HS– is responsible for applications and preparation of cases for the Department of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, the Department of Law, Psychology and Social Work, the College of Music and the College of Restaurant and Hospitality.

Number of student representatives: 1 The teacher proposal committee for MH - is responsible for applications and preparation of cases for the Department of Health Sciences, the Department of Medical Sciences and Region Örebro County.

Number of student representatives: 1 Do you want to be involved in strengthening the teachers' pedagogical awareness and skill? It is the focus of this committee, which arranges seminars and further training for teachers on MH's courses and for supervisors in clinical activities. It also strengthens the national and international network in higher education educational development and research that is niched towards the education of health professionals. The committee consists of the chairman and four teachers, two from each department HV and MV. As a student representative, you are welcome at our meetings (1-2 times/semester) and to participate in the activities we organize. We hope that you will contribute with a student perspective in this.

The committee is tasked with preparing questions for the faculty committee regarding education at first and second level and to support the faculty's quality work in education at first and second level.

The committee is tasked with initiating questions and preparing proposals for the faculty board regarding education at first level and advanced level with the aim of promoting the faculty's development in relation to strategic goals in the area.

The committee is tasked with initiating questions and preparing proposals for the faculty committee regarding research and education at postgraduate level with the aim of promoting the faculty's development in relation to strategic goals in the area. KFF is also responsible for planning the implementation of the doctoral program and supporting the faculty committee in its quality work in research and education at doctoral level.

The committee prepares matters concerning internal education evaluations and changes in the faculty's education offering (establishment/revision of education and discontinuation of education).

Directly subordinate to the Örebro student union (ÖS) general council is the union board - Örebro student union's highest executive body.

The corps board consists of the ÖS chairman, the ÖS two vice-chairmen and a member from each corps section (usually the corps section's chairman or vice-chairman). The board's main tasks can be summed up as implementing the council's decisions and managing the organization.

The union board is responsible for a large part of the Örebro student union's political work towards the university, municipality, region and business. The political issues often concern the overall student population, while the boards of the union sections pursue issues with a closer connection to the students of their institution.
